Milan Malpensa airport is the closest major airport to Stresa, note that it has two terminals. It’s a pretty major airport, so you should be able to find flights. There are one or two a day to/from Edinburgh.
Taxi/Minibus
A pre-booked taxi will be around €80 (one-way). I’ve been looking at this site, but I’ve not used them before so have no particular recommendation. This is what I’ll be doing.

Bus
There is a direct bus between Malpensa (both terminals) and Stresa. Timetable is here:

Ponte Roddo seems to be the closest stop to the villa, I would confirm with the driver before committing to it. Thanks to Peter for finding it on Google maps:

If you get off at the main Stresa stop (Imbarcadero), the villa seems to be about a 20 minute walk away. It’s the main port and bus stop, so you should be able to find a taxi.
These are the stops at the airport:
Stop Alibus in Malpensa (Terminal 1): bus stop 5/6 - exit gate 2/3
Stop Alibus in Malpensa (Terminal 2): arrival - bus stop n.2
The one-way fare is €12 (includes one large bag). A bike is an extra €10 (John!).
Train
You will need to change station if taking the train. Apparently the bus is a lot simpler from the airport, although there are probably more options with timing with the trains. If coming directly from Milan city centre then you need Milan Centrale station (not the same station as the Malpensa Express).
